The turf blades are the easy part. What separates a turf lawn that lasts from one that puddles, smells, and grows moss at the seams is the base — and in Pierce County, where the ground stays saturated for months, the base has to move a lot of water. We excavate, install a free-draining crushed-rock and decomposed-granite base, compact it in lifts, and grade it so water sheets off and infiltrates instead of sitting under the turf.

On clay-heavy lots — common across South Hill, parts of Lakewood, and the Tacoma flats — we add a perforated drain or a deeper aggregate layer so the saturated subsoil below does not back water up into the turf. For pet owners, we use an antimicrobial infill and a drainage layer sized for the rinse-through that keeps odor out. This is the same drainage-first engineering we put under a paver patio, applied to a lawn.
