PERMEABLE PAVER INSTALLATION IN TACOMA, WA

Pavers That Solve Your Drainage Problem — While Looking Great.

Western Washington's rainfall intensity makes stormwater management a real engineering challenge. Permeable paver systems let water pass through the surface and into a controlled sub-base rather than running off into your neighbor's yard or your own foundation.

Overview

When Permeable Pavers Are the Right Answer

Not every drainage problem needs a catch basin and drain pipe. Permeable paver systems — using open-jointed or porous paver units over a layered aggregate base — manage stormwater where it falls, infiltrating it into the soil or directing it to a sub-base storage layer.

In Tacoma and Pierce County, permeable paver systems can satisfy stormwater retention requirements for new construction and additions, reduce or eliminate the need for traditional drainage infrastructure, and qualify for impervious surface credits under certain permit conditions.

They work best on areas with moderate foot or vehicle traffic and where the native soil has at least some infiltration capacity. We assess your soil infiltration rate during the consultation to confirm whether a permeable system is appropriate for your property.

How It Works

Simple Process. No Surprises.

01

Drainage Assessment & Infiltration Test

We assess the site drainage conditions and perform a basic infiltration test on native soil to determine whether full infiltration or a detained system is appropriate.

02

System Design & Stormwater Calculation

Permeable paver system designed for your drainage volumes. Stormwater calculations prepared where needed for permit compliance.

03

Free 3D Design Rendering

ArcSite rendering of the finished surface — same design quality as any other installation project.

04

Itemized Proposal

Full cost breakdown.

05

Sub-base & Underdrain Installation

Layered aggregate sub-base and perforated underdrain pipe installed. This is the functional core of the system.

06

Paver Installation & Joint Media

Permeable pavers or open-joint units set, joint media filled and compacted, edge restraints secured.

Common Questions

Permeable Pavers FAQ

Permeable paver joints can reduce in permeability over time as fine sediment accumulates. In the Pacific Northwest, this is typically a 5–10 year process with normal use. Permeability can be restored by vacuuming out the joint media and refilling. Annual leaf and debris removal helps extend the maintenance interval.
